Slade Counselling: Your Partner in Mental Health

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and resolve trauma, anxiety, and distressing memories. By combining elements of traditional talk therapy with guided imagery, ART facilitates rapid healing and resolution of issues such as anxiety, PTSD, and phobias.

At Slade Counselling, ART is used to help reduce the emotional intensity of difficult experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming. Unlike traditional talk therapy, ART works by helping the brain reprocess memories using guided eye movements and visualization techniques. Clients often experience relief in just one session, leading to reduced symptoms and improved emotional well-being.

Slade Counselling offers Accelerated Resolution Therapy for clients across Alberta and Saskatchewan, including secure virtual sessions.

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a structured, brief therapy that allows individuals to process distressing experiences.

Using specific eye movement patterns, ART helps the brain:

  • Reprocess difficult memories

  • Reduce emotional and physical reactions

  • Replace distressing images with more neutral or positive ones

  • Improve how the memory is stored and experienced

This approach allows clients to move forward without feeling stuck in the past.

What Can ART Help With?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy can be effective for a range of concerns, including:

  • Trauma and unresolved past experiences

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Intrusive thoughts or distressing memories

  • Phobias and specific fears

  • Stress and emotional overwhelm

  • Sleep difficulties and nightmares

ART is particularly helpful for individuals who feel stuck in patterns they haven’t been able to shift through with 'traditional' approaches.

How ART Works

ART sessions are guided and structured, focusing on helping you process specific memories or experiences in a safe and controlled way.

During a session, you will:

  • Be guided through eye movements while focusing on a memory

  • Notice changes in how the memory feels over time

  • Work toward reducing the emotional intensity associated with it

  • Replace distressing elements with more manageable or positive imagery

You remain in control throughout the process, and sessions are paced according to your comfort level.

What To Expect

Many clients find ART to be a faster and more direct approach compared to traditional talk therapy.

In your sessions, you can expect:

  • A structured and supportive process

  • Minimal need to talk in detail about difficult experiences

  • A focus on results and symptom relief

  • Noticeable shifts in how memories feel

  • Progress within a relatively short number of sessions

Every experience is unique, but many clients report feeling lighter and more at ease after just one treatment.

ART and Other Therapy Approaches

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is often used alongside other approaches such as trauma-informed counselling and hypnotherapy.

If you’re unsure whether ART is the right fit, it can be discussed as part of a broader therapy plan tailored to your needs.

Is ART Right For You?

ART can be a great option if you are looking for a focused and efficient way to work through trauma, anxiety, or distressing memories.

It is especially helpful for individuals who:

  • Want results in fewer sessions

  • Prefer a structured approach

  • Find it difficult to talk in detail about past experiences

  • Feel stuck despite trying other forms of therapy
